Medicals
During the enrolment process, international students must obtain either:
- The relevant aviation medical for commercial flying in their home country
- Obtain a NZCAA Class 1 medical from any of the approved overseas medical examiners listed on the CAA website http://www.caa.govt.nz/Script/AMA_DME_OS.asp
Please include a copy with your enrolment paperwork.
Once in New Zealand, if you do not hold a NZCAA Class 1 medical you will be required to obtain one before starting your training to be a professional pilot. Medicals can only be completed with an Accredited Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). Medicals are valid for five years for private operations and one year for commercial operations if you are under 40 years old.
Wearing glasses should not prevent you from gaining a medical or restrict your licence in any way, providing you can meet the vision standard when wearing them.
A listing of approved medical examiners is located at http://www.caa.govt.nz/medical/amenz.htm
